About our rv refrigerator repair service

Absorption refrigerators — the two-way and three-way units in most travel trailers and motorhomes — cool through a sealed chemical cycle driven by heat from an LP burner or an electric element. They are reliable but fussy. Poor cooling usually traces to a weak heat source, blocked burner or flue, insufficient ventilation behind the unit, being off-level for extended periods, or a control board and thermistor reading incorrectly. A genuinely failed cooling unit is possible but far less common than owners fear, and we confirm it with testing before recommending a replacement that expensive.

Our process checks the operating mode that fails, LP pressure and burner flame quality, the electric element and its wiring, the control board and eyebrow panel, the thermistor position and value, and the airflow path through the lower vent and roof vent. We clean the burner and flue, verify the baffle position and check for the telltale signs of an ammonia leak. Many poor-cooling complaints turn out to be airflow and heat-source issues that are fully repairable.

Compressor refrigerators — increasingly common in newer rigs — are diagnosed differently: DC voltage under load, controller error codes, fan operation, door seals and thermostat function. They are more tolerant of being off-level but far less tolerant of low voltage, which makes battery and wiring health part of every diagnosis.

Whatever the type, we give you a straight answer about whether repair or replacement makes financial sense for your rig and how you use it. Quality over quantity means we would rather do one honest diagnosis well than sell you a cooling unit you did not need.

Frequently asked questions

My fridge cools on gas but not on electric. Why?
Usually a failed heating element, its wiring, or the control board relay for the electric mode. All are testable on site.
Does being off-level really damage the fridge?
Extended operation while significantly off-level can damage an absorption cooling unit. Short periods are generally fine.
Is a new cooling unit worth it?
Sometimes. We confirm the failure first and give you an honest repair-versus-replace recommendation.
